SAMIA'S STORY
I started looking into adoption many years ago, but kept
putting it off mainly for monetary reasons. In September 2002 I decided somehow
I would find a way to make it work. In November 2002 I made a decision to go the
way of International Adoption. By early December I had chosen the Mongolia program
through LSS in Wisconsin and Upper Michigan with help from my local adoption worker
in Minnesota. It was the best decision I've ever made! I had a referral and saw
a video on December 30th. WOW! It had happened so fast! I now had to come up with
a lot of money quickly. Thanks to A
Child Waits Foundation and
a home equity loan along with what I'd saved, my dream became a reality.
On April 24th, 2003 our small
group of six families left for Mongolia amid all the SARS scare. It didn't matter
to me. I wanted my little baby girl! The trip was shortened dramatically due to
our group being on a plane with a potential SARS victim. Our group was ushered
through the adoption process in what was to be record time. We had to go through
China for the embassy visit, etc. All was done by May 1st. It was a blessing we
even got our children. We were concerned they were going to just send us all home.
On May 2nd my new daughter
and I arrived in Duluth to elated Grandparents and a relieved bunch of people.
Turns out my daughter was considered potential SARS upon our arrival so we were
ushered to the hospital. All is well now and she never had SARS. She is the happiest,
cutest, little bundle of joy ever!!
Thank you so much A Child Waits Foundation for helping me become a Mom!
