The Bowen Family
Romania - 2000

It is with pleasure that I introduce you to the members of our family. My husband, Lee, had a stroke in 1986 and is confined to a wheelchair. He has a great sense of humor and loves children. Amanda is our nine year old daughter from Calcutta India. Her adoption was completed February 13, 1998. Amanda has Down syndrome and is speech impaired. She spent time in our hospital with Malaria and had to have her tonsils out. She attends special education classes at our school and is doing very well. We are very proud of her. Amanda has given us so much joy she has changed our lives in the most extraordinary way!

Mary and Steve are our two grown children. Each has their own career. Steve is in Connecticut and is technical supervisor of a Chucky Cheese restaurant. Mary lives here in Bath with her son Michael and is a child care specialist for pro-action. Michael is 12-years-old and spends much of his time here while his mom works. I am a LPN and I had to resign my position to care for my husband in April, 1998. Currently, I have a day care that started this January.

Since Amanda's adoption, we have been searching for a little brother for her with similar disabilities. It was our goal to adopt from the same country but so far none of the children that we were interested in were assigned to us. Then we were told about Nicki. Unfortunately he is not from India, he is from Romania but after reviewing all his information and seeing his picture we are sure this little fellow will make a wonderful addition to our family. He was in an orphanage for special children and needed medical care that he was not getting. We will be giving him all the care he needs. After all, we love this boy so much already.

Thank you so much for helping us to adopt our son. Without your help we could not have done it. He wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your foundation.
