Our Adoption Story

Janki Elaine Gasteiger joined our family on June 24, 2003 at the age of 7 years. Janki is our 9th child, and our 6th adopted child. We first heard of Janki through a tiny black and white photo listed on the internet. She looked so sad, and she had the same birth date as my mother. There was something about her that touched our hearts.

We requested her information and wondered if she was meant to be our daughter! After five adoptions, we had really exhausted our resources. We had refinanced our house three times, and didn't have any savings. We had used A Child Waits Foundation when we needed travel money for our 5th adopted child, so I called and asked if it would be possible for us to borrow again, and Cynthia said yes! We could borrow up to the exact amount the agency needed for Janki's adoption! We put Janki's adoption into God's hands and decided if she was meant to be ours the rest of the money we would need would come.

There were many delays while waiting for Janki. First, an earthquake hit the area where Janki was living stopping everything for a few months. Next, there was fighting between the Hindus and the Muslims, halting things again. Finally, the guardianship had to be obtained from family court instead of the court they had been using to obtain guardianship, delaying everything again.

The day did arrive when we got a phone call that we had received guardianship and our daughter would be arriving home in a month or two! She arrived on June 24, 2003, and has been a wonderful addition to our family. She's quickly learning English, and is in the 1st grade already learning to read. We thank A Child Waits Foundation from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to borrow the adoption money we needed, making Janki's adoption possible!
