The Silcock-Belles Family
Romania 2002
George
is a well-adjusted nine year-old boy. He enjoys living in California and wearing
surfer-style clothing. George has blossomed from shy to outgoing. He enjoys all
types of sports and currently attends weekly swimming and karate lessons. He has
earned a green belt from his karate instructor. He is a student of the South Coast
Repertory Theater acting school and a participant in the MY ART theater program.
George was recently in the MY ART production of, 'Oliver!" and is currently
rehearsing for "The Sound of Music".
George attends Moffet Elementary
School in his neighborhood and is in a general education second grade class. He
has adjusted well to the school routine. George is delayed in all academic areas,
yet he makes an effort in school. Although he is shy, he has school friends in
the neighborhood who invite him to play and to have dinner at their homes.
George has bonded well to his new family and lives in a large, seven-bedroom home. Mom and Dad are home when George comes home from school and are available to their children whenever they are needed. We teach our children the value of work by allowing them to participate in the typical domestic activities required to run a household. George knows how to prepare simple meals, helps with doing the dishes and laundry, and picks up after himself.
We are a large
adoptive family. Since adopting George, we have brought three new children into
our home, which now brings the total number of children to 25. George is friendly
and enjoys playing with all the children. Our family keeps busy with lots of activities
at home (pet care for four dogs and a parrot, birthday parties, "sing-alongs"
with accomplished musicians, etc.) and in the community (theme parks, museums,
aquariums, sporting events, concerts, etc.). George has been encouraged to identify
his dreams and discover his strengths.
We communicate
with respect and listen carefully to our children. George's command of English
is outstanding. He quickly mastered both receptive and expressive language components
and uses colloquial phrases as a typical native speaker would.
We feel fortunate
to have found George; he is doing extremely well and continues to thrive in his
new home and family. We believe our family is a testament to the importance and
necessity that all children have a "forever family."
