Our Adoption Story
In 2008 we started the process of trying to adopt a child
from Russia after trying for 5 years to have a child. We were unable to due
to infertility issues, but God laid on our hearts the idea of adoption. We decided
to go to Russia as I had studied there as an exchange student while in college
and fell in love with the country. We used Catholic Social Services and we went
to the Moscow region on a blind referral not knowing if we would be getting
a little boy or little girl. We didn't care as long as they would be ours.
After all the expenses involved with infertility treatments we didn't have much
money left in savings, but took a step of faith and started the process in January
2008. With help from family/friends, paying as we went, and frugal use of frequent
flyer miles/points we made it most of the way through the process. We were going
to be short towards the end but A Child Waits
Foundation helped us with their loan program which made all the
difference in the world and gave us the extra help we needed to finish the process.

We were blessed with our daughter Alina on March 20, 2009.
She was 11 months when we came home and is thriving and giving us a hard time
keeping up with her energy and exuberance. She's a happy little girl with lots
of love and personality. We've been home for 8 months now and she's such an
integral part of our lives. I can't imagine our lives without her.

Thank you so much for all of your help during this process. God bless you!
Sincerely,
The Thompsons
