China 2014
Dear A Child Waits Foundation:
It's been two months since being back in the U.S. We came back on September 10, 2014 after spending almost 2 weeks in China. We named our daughter Candice Visakha and we call her Candy. She was 3 years old when we got her.
We left for China on August 28, 2014 and we met her on September 1, 2014 in Nanjiin, Jiangsu Province. She came with the Director of the orphanage and she recognized us right away and would let us hug, kiss and carry her. She was so quiet and did not cry at all until the time when she realized the Director was going to leave her with us. In the hotel room, the crib was her comfort zone. She would not play, watch TV, or have snacks outside her crib. The difficult time started when we arrived in the hotel in Guangzhou, she started to cry when she found out there was not a crib in the hotel room. She kept saying want to go home and want to see her "Cie Cie" (means elder sister) - not related and her "Nai Nai" (means grandma) - also not related. She even refused to eat. But luckily with the help of the translator that we downloaded on our cellphone, we were able to explain to her about the whole thing and finally she understood and stopped crying. Day after day she made progress, and within a week she started to laugh and play a lot.
Candice just celebrated her 4th birthday last month. She was so happy, she was showered with a lot of gifts from our friends. She is always active, talks a lot, loves to play, sing and dance. Her favorite songs are "Mama Hao", the Chinese children's song, which means mama dear and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", they have become her bedtime songs.
She eats everything and is not picky at all. She loves veggies, fruits, noodles, and rice. Her favorites are broccoli, carrots, squash, bananas, watermelon, grapes, and strawberries. Our dogs, Dundee and Mocci have become her best friends and she always helps me during their feeding time. She likes to help her mom around the house, such as unloading the clean dishes and dry laundry.
We just know in our heart that she was meant for us, she has become the center of our family, a precious little girl and we just can not imagine our life with out her.
Again, we would like to say thank you so much to A Child Waits Foundation, for the biggest gift that we have ever received. It was like a dream come true when Ms. Cynthia Nelson called us that day to let us know that we were receiving a grant. The grant was a huge help for us and your generosity will never be forgotten.
Love,
The T Family
