Family Stories
International Adoption 2024

In 2024 we awarded grants to help 204 children to be adopted from 21 different countries and 21 states in the USA. Some of their wonderful pictures and adoption experiences are recounted below in the family's own words.

"A" - Thailand

We've been back in the United States for barely a week, but we're already thrilled to begin our forever together. "A" is more clever, comedic, and expressive than we could've possibly imagined. We love our spunky firecracker! And my how brave she is! Not even giant monitor lizards could frighten her (but perhaps an ant or two may have).

At home, she's quite insistent on being part of every domestic chore (laundry, dishes, grocery shopping), and I'm more than happy to let her help me. "A" was also quick to latch onto her older brother, mirroring everything he does. I never once expected her first words in English to be Star Wars characters!

There were some medical surprises in-country: "A" is hyper-extensive in all of her joints, which means she trips and falls at the slightest breeze or bumps in the pavement. Rest assured, your generous grant was put to good use.

Thank you again for your generosity and commitment to children everywhere!

Kingshuk - India

While preparing to travel to India to pick up my son, I had many things on my mind. Keeping track of the paperwork alone is an immense task, let alone planning an international trip and preparing to be a first-time parent, all while living out of a suitcase for an undetermined amount of time. I was full of excitement and anticipation knowing that I would soon be holding my child, but I was also experiencing a lot of stress. Receiving a grant at this time was such a gift as it relieved the financial pressure associated with the trip and therefore decreased the stress.

I am so grateful to A Child Waits for helping me at that time and making it easier for me to focus on the happiness of the journey ahead. My son and I have been together for 3 months now, and life is so full of joy! Kingshuk is a happy, cuddly, intelligent little boy. He has braved the huge adjustments well, and we are settling into our life together.

Our family received a grant from A Child Waits Foundation right before we left for Thailand at the beginning of September. I want to share with your team that we are home, and adjusting very well. We are grateful to the Lord for how He provided many times throughout our adoption including the grant from you all. I hope you get a glimpse of how impactful the work you are doing is, by viewing our photos. Thank you for blessing my family.

We have been home for 11 days and have finally adjusted to our regular sleep patterns. Our son now cheers when we pull into the neighborhood. He is a typical little boy- loves to dig for worms in our yard and sword fight. It has been a privilege to witness so many first moments for him. We are thankful the Lord chose us to be his family.

Asa - India

It's been almost 4 weeks since we arrived home with our sweet 4-year-old son, Asa, from India. We can already see him growing stronger every single day, and his determination and strength are so amazing to watch!

God can make beauty from ashes, as we're witnessing in our life as well as our children's. So often we've felt out of our league - imperfect parents stumbling along as we learn how best to raise and support our kiddos. But there is so much grace for us! The One who created family, the One who is the author of each and every one of our stories... He loves to "bind up our wounds and heal the brokenhearted". That pressure to get it right is lifted from us, and we can rest in His wise plan and unfailing love.

Our journey has been a long and difficult one, but God truly was guiding our footsteps all along to bring us together with this precious child. He's provided what we've needed when we needed it, including financial support by way of a grant from A Child Waits Foundation for our special needs adoption (our son has cerebral palsy).

You have been an answer to prayer. Your support and understanding as we dealt with the uncertainty of our travel time showed your care and heart for adoption, and we are so thankful for your incredible gift to us! God bless you this new year!

To the Board of A Child Waits Foundation,

I am very thankful for the financial help the A Child Waits grant gave to me and my family. The grant check arrived about four days before me and one of my daughters left to fly to Hong Kong to pick up my son. We had gotten another grant earlier, but it was being held by the adoption agency I was working with, and in fact it didn’t get released and sent to us until after Christmas. So, the A Child Waits grant was the only financial help we had right before and during our trip. I had a lot of credit card debt leading up to the trip because I had to put everything on credit cards, so I used some of the award to make payments on the various cards, and the rest I put in my bank to use during travel. It was also a blessing, because there were a lot of little things I did not realize I would be responsible for financially. I had no idea that I would be required to pay for the transportation, food and activity fees for the foster parent, and all the social workers that accompanied me, my daughter, and my son around Hong Kong. I was probably warned, but in my excitement and worry, it flew right out of my head.

The trip to Hong Kong was a success, and we all arrived back in the states safe, and surprised with about 2 ½ feet of snow on the car, which was parked in the long-term lot at the airport. My son was in shock. He knew what snow was, but he was not expecting the amount that we got. I think the first week was the most difficult for him. By the second week, he got a little more comfortable with us, and the school. I took him in to get scheduled one day, he got tested by the ENL teacher another day, and because I work there, he came to help me with something on a third visit. Then at the end of the week we went to visit my sisters and my son was able to discover how to really play in the snow, with snowball fights, sledding, and snow mobile rides.

The third week brought Christmas, which was one thing he had stated that he was excited to experience for the first time. It was cute to see the girls explain traditions to him, like the stocking. My youngest daughter told him they all had to go through their stockings together. He was a little confused and excited by the presents because, of course, each present is geared towards each specific child's likes and I don’t think he realized that the gifts would be personalized to the recipient. A couple days after Christmas, I took the kids tubing, and that was another new experience, which he loved. He actually really enjoys the snow when it is moldable and the weather is cold but not bitter. By the fourth week, he was in a weekly routine of church on Sunday, his sister’s drum lessons on Tuesday, his guitar lessons on Thursdays, and Saturday is his free day to play video games with his friends back in Hong Kong. He had a two day school week the fourth week too, which was a nice easy entrance into the American public school experience. We just finished his fifth week, and he really enjoyed it. He had a full week of school, but I think school is not as stressful here in America, as it must be in Hong Kong. Plus, I work in the school and his sister goes to the same school and is in a Jazz band with him, so I think he likes being able to goof around with his sister in the hallways, and pop in to see me in the library.

I am so grateful for the help and hope your financial gift has brought to our family. It relieved a lot of stress I did not even realize I had bottled up, because when I found out we received the gift, I just felt a weight lift off of me and I thanked God for your organization. Thank you for being a part of the family of kind souls who have worked hard to help bring my son home. â€‹â€‹
